The Croods 2 Receives Massive Backlash for Scene Depicting the Invention of Fascism
The new film, Croods 2 from DreamWorks recently came under fire for a supposed scene in which some of the new characters seem to create a fascist state. Some are viewing this as a misguided attempt to warn children of the dangers of authoritarianism, while others seem to think it’s just a disgraceful attempt at comedy. In the scene in question, multiple characters can be seen marching in unison, referring to the character of Grug as their “supreme leader” and restricting other characters from using fire.
Director Joel Crawford is apparently unapologetic of the scene in question, he said, “Listen, these people have to understand, we can’t just repeat the same thing every time in these Croods movies, we have to push the envelope. People don’t wanna just see the same family of neanderthals having wacky adventures. They want to see them dive deep into serious issues. I don’t want to spoil the next one but I have a beloved character taking part in a lynching.”
No word yet how Dreamworks feels about the scene in question, or the directors thoughts on possible Crood 3 plot points.
